Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 4, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Aurora Pass handles information when you use the iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS app.
Information You Choose to Provide
Saved observing spots. If you use your location or add spots manually, the app stores spot names and coordinates so it can calculate aurora visibility for those places.
Journal entries and photos. If you log sightings or attach selected photos, those notes, dates, locations, Kp values, and photo data are stored in the app journal.
Settings and alerts. Alert profile, quiet-hour settings, premium state, and related app preferences may be stored so the app can schedule local notifications.
Support messages. If you contact support, we process the information you choose to send.
How Information Is Stored
Aurora Pass stores app data on your device. When iCloud is enabled for the app, Apple CloudKit may sync your saved spots, journal entries, photos, and settings through your private iCloud database. We do not operate a custom user-content server for Aurora Pass.
Location and Photos
Location access is used to create an observing spot and forecast nearby sky conditions. Photo library access is used only when you choose photos to attach to a sighting. You can change these permissions in iOS Settings at any time.
Purchases
Premium purchases are processed by Apple through StoreKit. We do not receive or store your payment card number.
External Data Services
The app requests public space-weather and weather data from services such as NOAA SWPC, Open-Meteo, and GFZ Potsdam. These requests are used to provide forecasts and scoring.
Tracking and Advertising
We do not sell personal information and do not use Aurora Pass data to track you across apps or websites owned by other companies for advertising purposes.
Forecast Disclaimer
Aurora visibility forecasts are probabilistic. They can be incomplete or inaccurate because geomagnetic and weather conditions change quickly. The app is intended for planning and journaling, not for safety-critical decisions.
Children
Aurora Pass is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy when the app changes. The updated date at the top shows the latest version.
